An authentic and typical pre-Christmas Swedish adventure. This is a small and personal holiday in the beautiful surroundings of the Bay of Bothnia and Brandön Lodge. Great company, great food and a relaxed atmosphere – a perfect pre-Christmas escape.
Small scale genuine winter activities are key to this holiday. Experienced guides live and breathe the remote wilderness of Swedish Lapland and will show you how to make the most of your snowy surroundings. A Nordic Winter Skills Course teaches you how to dress correctly, explore by snowshoes and light a fire in the snow including making a hot drink!
Take a step back in time with a husky excursion through the Boreal Forest and go in search of the magical northern lights under the northern lights activity corridor.
The highlight of this holiday is the Luleå Gammelstad (Luleå Old Town) winter market. Gammelstad itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site and open air museum. Small red cottages make up a Swedish ‘church village’ where people would stay to attend services due to long travelling distances and unpredictable weather. Now the little cottages serve as a reminder of the past and a great way to show children a traditional Swedish Christmas. The Christmas market itself is spread all over this small village with treats for both adults and children. The large Christmas tree in the centre and the many lights brighten the otherwise dark snowy landscape. The kids may enjoy some of the sweeter treats, while the adults can enjoy Glögg, a Christmas mulled wine. You can explore the different stands, or relax in a cozy café. Either way, this visit will surely immerse you in the holiday spirit. With plenty of handicrafts and festive entertainment, the market really gives you a chance to enjoy the celebration like a Swede.
